Biographical history
The Southport Women's Institute was organized in Southport, Prince Edward Island, in December of 1942 with the first regular meeting held in the home of Mrs. John MacKay on the 16th of that month. Over the years the Institute has been closely involved in community affairs and prepared and published a book on the history of the area as well as organizing many social events for the Institute.

Scope and content
The fonds contains minute books of the Southport Womens Institute from December 1942 to September 1979, a publishing award from the PEI Museum and Heritage Foundation, poetry of the Institute, and a scrapbook containing photographs and correspondence re. children sponsored by the Institute through the International Child Care Program. A photograph album contains images of social events and a few newspaper clippings re. the Institute. There are also 43 individual colour snapshots.
