Biographical history
Lemuel Vickerson was one of twelve children of Conrad Vickerson (1790-1871) and Jessie Robertson (1804-1874). He was born 20 June 1837 in Marshfield, Prince Edward Island. In 1842 he moved with his family to Hermitage. When Lemuel's brother Henry died in 1864, Lemuel moved to Summerside to take over the operation of his brother's general store. He was the Collector of Excise and Light Duties in Summerside in 1873. Lemuel was active in religious life and the Masonic Mount Lebanon Lodge. He married Harriet Ethelinda Wright (1844-1925) on 1 January 1867 and they had three children: Henry (1867-1924), Martha Strong (1872-1935), and Herbert James (1870-1938). Lemeul died on 28 December 1874, at the age of thirty-six. He and his wife Harriet are buried in the Lower Bedeque Cemetery.

Jessie Robertson (1804-1874) was married to Conrad Vickerson (1790-1871) and lived in Marshfield and Hermitage, Prince Edward Island. They had twelve children, two of whom were Henry and Lemuel who consecutively operated at general store in Summerside.

The fonds consists of correspondence of Lemuel Vickerson and various members of the Vickerson family, including his mother Jessie Vickerson, sisters Jane and Emma Vickerson, brothers James and Henry Vickerson, and Leumuel's wife Harriet (Wright) Vickerson. The correspondence includes information about family members and their activities. Some of the correspondence addressed to Jessie Vickerson and James Vickerson is regarding Lemuel's death in December 1874. There is also one unidentified partial letter (undated). The fonds also contains both an original and transcribed diary of Lemeul Vickerson for 1868. In this diary, the weather and trips to Bedeque to attend prayer meetings are mentioned frequently. Also included is genealogical data on the Vickerson family gathered by Frederick Vickerson, 1976.
