Biographical history

T. Gordon Ives was born in Tryon, Prince Edward Island, 29 May 1885, the son of Isaac and Louisa (Howatt) Ives. He married Elva Louise Stewart, a schoolteacher, who taught in the Brudenell area for several years prior to her marriage. T. G. Ives operated a general dry goods store in Montague before selling to two brothers by the name of Bears and moving to Charlottetown where he operated an automobile dealership. Gordon and Elva had two sons, Claude and Stewart. The latter married Effie M. Brehaut. T. Gordon Ives died in 1954 and Elva Stewart Ives died in 1973.

Scope and content

This fonds consists of a ledger of the sales of individual clerks in the Ives dry goods store in Montague from March 1927 to January 1931. Marginal notes include weather and family and community events including illnesses and deaths. As well, the fonds contains an 1863 map of Lot 31 and photographs of Francis Bain, various unidentified school classes, picnics and social events, Ives Mill, and the 2nd Medium Battery Artillery in Petawawa, Ontario in 1936.
