This subseries consists of documents, created or received by the office of Premier Alex B. Campbell between the years 1966 and 1979, which relate to the activities of Prince Edward Island provincial government departments, crown corporations, agencies, and commissions. Some of the various departments, as indicated on the original file folders, which are mentioned in this sub-series include Agriculture, Agriculture and Forestry, Attorney General, Cultural Affairs, Education, Environment, Finance, Fisheries, Health, Highways, Human Resources, Industry and Commerce, Industry and Natural Resources, Labour, Motor Vehicle Division, Municipal Affairs, Provincial Secretary, Provincial Treasurer, Public Works, Social Services, Tourist Development, Transportation, and Welfare. Commissions include the following: Centennial Commission; Civil Service Commission; and Liquor Control Commission. Also located in this sub-series are records of the following Crown Corporations and Agencies: Addiction Foundation; Industrial Enterprises; Institute of Man and Resources; Institute for Research on Public Policy; Island Development Company; Island Heritage Foundation; Joint Advisory Board; Land Development Corporation; Lending Authority; P.E.I. Water Authority - Environmental Control; Planning and Development Board; and Rural Development Council.
The files contain such documents as memos, correspondence between government officials, including Ministers and Deputy Ministers, and members of the public, applications for funding, minutes, reports, and surveys. Some of the major topics mentioned are alcoholism treatment and the breathalyser, the Atlantic Wind Test Site, the Centennial, the Comprehensive Development Plan, the dairy industry, farm establishment, ferry service, the Fiscal Study of 1969, the Georgetown shipyard, the establishment of a single hospital in Charlottetown, the Irish moss industry, the Irving Whale, land survey, low rental housing, pensions, post-secondary education including the amalgamation of St. Dunstan's University and Prince of Wales College, the Prince County Welfare Agency, provincial parks and recreation, rural development, school consolidation, Seabrook farms, student summer employment, and tourist operators.
