Notice biographique

The People's Cemetery was established in 1884 as the Protestant cemetary for the Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, area. Mr. John Dorsey was the first to be buried in the cemetery on the 1 September 1884. The cemetery operated as a private business owned and run by shareholders. Mr. Samuel Gregory and his son Seymour provided the caretaking services for the first 60 years. Records were not kept in the early years. In 1946 a new company was formed involving Ed Nicholson, Percy Turner, and Neil MacLean (who tried to compile as much information as possible). The cemetery is located between St. Peter's and Kensington Roads in the Parkdale area of Charlottetown.

Présentation du contenu

This fonds consists of a finding aid, information organized by plot number, information organized by section number for sections 17 to 23, single graves in sections 9 and 10, and a listing of special graves.

The finding aid is organized alphabetically by first letter in the surname only with corresponding plot number or location co-ordinates. The finding aid is followed by a plot listing of plots 1 to 1046. The plots generally contain more than one grave. Listings are comprised of information such as a plot map, the owner's name, the location, names of persons interred in the plot, birth and death dates, family relationships, headstone information (size and price), and cremated remains are also noted. The listings by section number are for sections 17 to 23 and list the owner's name, section, row, plot number, the names of the persons interred, death dates and ages, and occasionally an outline map. The single graves listing is for sections 9 and 10 and in some cases list the plot owner's address, occupation or place of employment and payment information in addition to the name of the interred and location information.
