History

The People's Cemetery was established in 1884 as the Protestant cemetary for the Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, area. Mr. John Dorsey was the first to be buried in the cemetery on the 1 September 1884. The cemetery operated as a private business owned and run by shareholders. Mr. Samuel Gregory and his son Seymour provided the caretaking services for the first 60 years. Records were not kept in the early years. In 1946 a new company was formed involving Ed Nicholson, Percy Turner, and Neil MacLean (who tried to compile as much information as possible). The cemetery is located between St. Peter's and Kensington Roads in the Parkdale area of Charlottetown.
