This series is comprised of license of occupation documents issued by the Lieutenant Governor to individuals "to occupy and enjoy" a designated parcel of land for a specified period of time (anywhere from six months to four years generally). Some documents also include a certification of the Surveyor General that a Warrant of Survey for the property has been conducted. There are also accounting notes and registration book references included on some of the Licenses. Any conditions required by the License such as cutting of timber or payment of rent may also be noted. Damaged documents have been photocopied and the photocopies are included for reference. The documents are organized into files chronologically by year. There are no licenses for 1823. The final file in this series contains of three lists of persons who were issued licenses of occupation for lots in Charlottetown from 1819 to 1828. The lists note the names of the persons who were issued a license of occupation, the date of issue, the land parcel number, and remarks as to whether or not a grant was given.
