Scope and content
This subseries consists of 43 volumes of judgment books. These volumes record the date of the court appearance, the names of the plaintiff(s) and defendant(s), the amount sued for, the amount of the Judgement as well as expenses incurred in prosecuting the case, and two columns for recording payments made by the defendant(s). Entries appear to fall on a specific day each month - ie. In the year 1841 the court appears to have sat on January 12, February 9, March 2, etc. The majority of these records concern cases heard in Georgetown although there are four books for Montague Bridge and one for Cardigan Cross. Many of the volumes have a label affixed to the front with an inscription such as "Commissioners Court, 1839-41, Georgetown, W. S." The initials are those of the Clerk of the Commissioners Court (William Sanderson, Roderick Munroe, Boswell Mcgonnall, or G. A. Aitken) who were responsible for maintaining the record books. The last few pages of Volume 2, Montague Bridge, record proceedings from the Justice of the Peace court, 13 September 1867 - 31 August 1871.
