Biographical history
John Stewart, the son of James Stewart and Margaret Walker of Foss, Scotland, was born on 19 October 1795. James and Margaret were married on the 16 October 1794 and had eleven children: John; James (1797-?); Margaret (1800-?); Joseph (1802-?); Alexander (1804-?); Bety (1806-?); David (1808-?); William (1810-?); Elizabeth (1811-?); Janet (1813-?) and Robert (1815-?).

Scope and content
The fonds consists of a photocopy of an account book belonging to John Stewart, dated 1763 to 1845, which includes receipts for rent payments of land; accounts for clothing, food and other articles; and notations of the births and deaths of Stewart family members. The fonds also includes a typed transcript of the account book and a photocopy of receipts for payments of rent from John Stewart in Donmaichfoull, Scotland, to John Stewart in Foss, dating 1763 and 1765.
