Biographical history

George Wotton was for many years the photographer for the Prince Edward Island Provincial Government. Prior to that appointment he operated a private studio in Charlottetown. He was present at, and photographed, many of the significant events in the Island's history in the period between 1960 and 1990.

Custodial history

Scope and content

The fonds consists mostly of negatives (and some prints) of buildings, personalities, activities, and events relating to the Confederation Centre of the Arts in Charlottetown. Those pertaining to the Centre as a whole include images of architectural details, classes in art, drama, and ballet, public ceremonies, conventions, centennial groups and events, and the Royal Visit of 1967. Images of the Art Gallery include interior shots of the layout as well as sequences relating to individual exhibitions including specific paintings and other works of art. Included are a significant number of images of the work of Robert Harris. A large portion of the collection documents the personalities and productions of the Summer Festival in its early years. There are also a few images of the dramas presented at the King's Playhouse in Georgetown.
