Scope and content
The fonds consists of 10 images of Elmwood, Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island. Three shots are of the exterior while seven portray various rooms in the interior, e.g. drawing room, dining room and den.
Elmwood, designed by Island architect William Critchlow Harris (1854-1913), was built in 1888 for Frederick Peters, a lawyer in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island. Peters was later to be Premier of Prince Edward Island from 1891-1897. The house is representative of the personalized "high Victorian gothic" style which Harris applied to the numerous churches, business blocks, and personal residences he designed in Prince Edward Island and Nova Scotia. Often called the Peake house for the family who acquired and occupied it for several decades after 1910, it still stands at 121 North River Road, the property of Jay and Carol MacDonald.
