Maritime heritage on display at the Celebration Zone this weekend
Tourism and Culture
“By hosting the Maritime Regional Heritage Fair at the Celebration zone, we give people the opportunity to learn about this region’s history and the history of Canada, the people and industries that helped shape that history, and how we became what we are today,” said Minister Henderson. “One of the primary objectives of the 2014 celebrations is to honour the past. What better way to do so than by hosting this event at the Celebration Zone where so many people will have the opportunity to tour the projects and learn about our heritage.”
Thirty-seven projects will be on display at the Fair, 14 of which are from the Island. All three Maritime provinces are represented. Project topics include community and local history, national historic sites, Acadian history, sports figures, military themes, shipping and navigation, medical history, family history, tragedies, industry and commerce. The projects will be displayed in the Canada Pavilion, and a public viewing will be held from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, July 12.
Fair participants will get the chance to attend a local theatre performance and will enjoy a historic downtown Charlottetown walking tour with members of the Confederation Players.
The Fair received a grant from the PEI 2014 Fund to host the event on Prince Edward Island. It also received support from Canada’s History Society, The PEI Museum and Heritage Foundation, Parks Canada and the City of Charlottetown.
