A new project made possible through the assistance of the PEI 2014 Fund will help launch a new tourism destination in the Evangeline region of Prince Edward Island. Running year-round, 2014 Celebrations at Village Musical will provide an elaborate program of cultural and artistic activities as part of the PEI 2014 celebrations.

“We’re thrilled that this PEI 2014 Fund-assisted project will help showcase and celebrate the Island’s rich Acadian culture while providing a positive economic impact in the Evangeline region,” says Minister of Tourism and Culture, Robert Henderson. “It’s a good thing for the Island anytime a new tourism destination in PEI can be developed and expanded.”

Artists of all disciplines and ages will have the opportunity to showcase their work through daily programming at Village Musical and surrounding facilities. Local and provincial artists will be featured in addition to selected top-notch entertainers from other provinces and countries. Special interest has been placed on young artists by providing training and mentoring to help prepare them to be stage-ready for performances throughout the 2014 celebration year.

“This is a very exciting project for the Evangeline region,” says PEI 2014 Community Advisory Committee representative, Georges Arsenault. “Village Musical will play an integral role in promoting the area as a premier destination choice for Acadian-style cultural events and activities”.

The 2014 Celebrations at Village Musical will benefit from a PEI 2014 Fund large grant valued at $123,750. Highlights of the project will include the grand opening of the of the Village Musical complex, Canada Day 2014 celebrations, and an enhanced Agricultural Exhibition and Acadian Festival in 2014.

In 2014, Canadians will mark the 150th anniversary (Sesquicentennial) of the historic 1864 Charlottetown Conference, which paved the way to Confederation. PEI 2014 Inc. is facilitating the planning, promotion and implementation of the Sesquicentennial celebrations. The PEI 2014 celebrations are made possible through generous support from the Government of Prince Edward Island and the Government of Canada. The year-long and province-wide PEI 2014 program of events will honour the past, celebrate the present and plan a bold tomorrow.
