Deadline approaching for heritage award nominations

Tourism and Culture

The deadline is fast approaching for Islanders who wish to nominate an individual for the 2013 Heritage Awards, says Minister of Tourism and Culture Robert Henderson.

“This is a great opportunity for individuals to be recognized for their contribution to historical preservation,” said Minister Henderson. “It’s very important that we take steps to preserve our shared history because it provides us with a sense of how the Island had developed over the years and because it can teach us important lessons that still apply today.”

The Provincial Heritage Awards are held the third Tuesday in February, during Heritage Week. The next awards will be held at Beaconsfield’s Carriage House on February 19, 2013. Individuals or groups can be nominated for devoting time and energy to preserving our past in volunteer time, the written word, song, building restorations and genealogical work.
