New Brunswick author to tour French schools and libraries

French speaking students across Prince Edward Island will have an opportunity to get up close and personal with an accomplished author and illustrator next week.

Denise Paquette will be visiting Island French schools and libraries from Monday, November 5, to Wednesday, November 7. The New Brunswick author is well-known for her illustrated books for children and youth including the popular series, “Souris Baline,” which is published by Éditions Acadie.

All stops on the author tour are free and open to the public. It is an initiative of the Public Library Service, the French School Board and Communication-Jeunesse.

Ms. Paquette’s schedule is as follows:

• Monday, November 5 at 9 a.m., École Saint-Augustin, Rustico

• Monday, November 5 at 1:30 p.m., Bibliothèque J.-Henri-Blanchard, Summerside

• Tuesday, November 6 at 9 a.m., Bibliothèque d’Abram-Village

• Tuesday, November 6 at 12:25 p.m., École Pierre-Chiasson, Deblois

• Wednesday, November 7 at 9 a.m., École la Belle-Cloche, Fortune

• Wednesday, November 7 at 1:30 p.m., Bibliothèque Dr.-J.-Edmond Arsenault, Charlottetown

About the Author:

Originally from Québec, Denise Paquette now resides in New Brunswick. She studied visual arts at college in Joliette, Québec, literacy at the University of Moncton and narratology at Université Laval. She taught French and writing skills in university. In 1989, she published the first album Une promenade en girafe from the well-known series which stars Souris Baline, which won the France-Acadie award. Since then, Denise has written over forty books for young readers. She presently teaches young literature at University of Moncton.
