Jobs still available at Kings County seafood processors

Innovation and Advanced Learning

Kings County seafood processors are still seeking applicants for positions that remain unfilled for the 2012 season, SkillsPEI reports.

Seafood industry workers and others seeking jobs in this industry are encouraged to contact SkillsPEI staff for further information on available jobs.

Staff will be available during business hours Monday through Friday at : Access PEI, 15 Green Street, Souris, (902) 687-7070.

Approximately 100 people attended a job fair held in Souris on January 31, with 83 applicants signing up for positions. Last year, 250 displaced workers registered with SkillsPEI seeking employment. Any displaced workers who were not able to attend the job fair are encouraged to contact SkillsPEI at (902) 687-7070.

Beginning February 3, staff from SkillsPEI will be contacting people who registered for employment assistance after recent layoffs in the Eastern Kings seafood industry in order to advise them of the industry openings.

Processors report high demand for workers and estimate that all displaced workers could be accommodated at seafood plants in Kings County. Some workers may be eligible for mobility assistance if they accept positions that require lengthy travel.
