Minister Currie Responsible for Provincial Pharmacy Supports CEO of Canadian Cancer Society
Social Services and Seniors
“We recognize that there is more to be done, especially in the area of the National Pharmaceutical Strategy, and we welcome and encourage continued lobbying efforts of the Canadian Cancer Society,” Minister Currie said.
In recent days, Canadian Cancer Society President and CEO Peter Goodhand has met with government to discuss the need for a National Catastrophic Drug Plan.
Minister Currie agrees with Mr. Goodhand in pointing out that Prince Edward Island is addressing the issue of cancer drugs as evidenced by the addition of nine cancer drugs since 2007.
During his visit to the Island, Mr. Goodhand took the opportunity to promote society’s call for federal involvement. In one public statement, he said, “The government continues to work to address this issue, both by adding new pharmaceuticals, and committing to modernizing the system to better help those whose lives have been touched by cancer.”
“We continue to benefit from a positive local partnership with the Canadian Cancer Society as we work to improve our support for people with cancer and other conditions requiring pharmaceuticals,” Minister Currie said.
