“Manor replacement is one of the key components of government’s recently announced Healthy Aging Strategy,” said Premier Ghiz. “The province has committed $51 million in its capital budget to replace a number of publically owned manors, including Maplewood Manor.”

Land for the new Maplewood Manor has been purchased – and planning for the new facility is underway.

“We are very pleased to announce the new Maplewood Manor will be located on the same property as the existing manor, behind the current building,” said Minister Currie. “Manor replacement is a priority for this government and we are committed to ensuring that Island seniors have access to high quality care and appropriate levels of support.”

Under the manor replacement plan, construction for the new Maplewood Manor was scheduled to start in approximately 2013. However, government recognizes that Maplewood Manor is an outdated facility and is committed to working on a revised, accelerated manor replacement plan with timelines to be determined over the coming months.

“Today’s announcement is great news for the community and for residents at Maplewood Manor,” said Pat Murphy, local MLA for the Alberton and Roseville area. “The new manor will benefit local seniors, their family members, healthcare workers and the community as a whole.”
