Seminar Teaches Seniors how to Protect Themselves from Telephone, Mail and Online Scams
Social Services and Seniors
Cpl. Jeannette Doucette of the Commercial Crime Unit of the RCMP will lead a seminar on Wednesday, October 1 at the Confederation Centre Public Library, from 1 -2 p.m.
“We will discuss some of the most common types of telephone, mail and online scams using real examples, so that everyone can walk away from the seminar being able to identify and report fraud the next time they encounter it,” explained Cpl. Doucette.
The event is being presented by the PEI Seniors Secretariat and Provincial Library Services, in recognition of International Day for Older Persons.
“These types of scams are financial abuse of our seniors, and they are entirely preventable with the right information,” said Doug Currie, Minister of Social Services and Seniors. “This seminar will empower our older family members and neighbours to protect themselves, their families and their assets.”
The seminar is free and everyone is welcome to attend. Registration is not required.
