Minister Sheridan asks Provincial and Territorial Finance Ministers to add the Crisis in Agriculture to Agenda at Upcoming Meeting

Provincial Treasury

Provincial Treasurer Wes Sheridan has asked to have what he calls “the crisis in agriculture” added to the agenda of an upcoming meeting of Provincial and Territorial Finance Ministers.

Today Minister Sheridan sent a letter to Alberta Finance Minister Lyle Oberg. Minister Oberg is organizing the gathering of the Provincial and Territorial Ministers, which will take place in the hours leading up to the group meeting with Federal Finance Minister James Flaherty.

“I know Prince Edward Island is not alone in facing what farmers here are calling a critical situation,” wrote Minister Sheridan. “Farmers are telling me the industry is in desperate trouble. We have to explore any way that we, as finance ministers, can help. I believe we can come up with some innovative solutions that could provide some relief to the men and women who earn their livelihoods in this important industry.”

The meetings will take place in Ottawa on December 12, 2007.
