“Government is very pleased a resolution has been reached which will guarantee residents and visitors will continue to have access to this beautiful beach,” said Development and Technology Minister Richard Brown. “Residents of the community were passionate about this issue and we felt their arguments were well founded and deserved attention.”

The previous government had entered into a deal with a private developer which had the potential to cut off public access to Sally’s Beach. A group of concerned area residents banded together to fight the decision, raising money for a potential appeal before the Island Regulatory and Appeals Commission.

“When we saw how committed the community was, and listened to their concerns about the development, we decided it was in everyone’s best interest to maintain public access to the site,” Minister Brown said. “We also feel it’s important to recognize the work the community put into this.”

The event is scheduled for 3-5 p.m. and will include Premier Robert Ghiz, Minister Brown, Communities, Cultural Affairs and Labour Minister Carolyn Bertram, Fisheries and Aquaculture Minister Allan Campbell and other elected representatives. Refreshments will be provided.
