Kings Castle's Charm Soon to Return

Tourism

Honourable Philip Brown, Minister of Tourism, announced today that in spite of the bad intentions of vandals who saw fit to destroy a number of cement statues and cause a great deal of damage at Kings Castle Provincial Park this spring, things are looking up for the park.

Darlene Cuddy, one of the staff of Kings Castle Park which is located in Gladstone, PEI, has planned a “Community Pride” cleanup day for the park this Saturday, May 27, beginning at 1 p.m. In the event of rain, the cleanup will take place Saturday, June 3. In addition to the community cleanup, the Department has made plans to have the three statues either replaced or repaired to their original appearance.

Minister Brown noted, “Our Visitors Guide describes Kings Castle Provincial Park as a magical place, displaying a family of favourite storybook characters in statue form. Kings Castle is a terrific family location, with open areas for games and a variety of equipment, and forts for children to enjoy, all nestled in the banks of the beautiful Murray River.”

Premier Pat Binns, who represents the district that is home to Kings Castle Provincial Park, encourages everyone to get out and join in the community pride cleanup day for the park this Saturday at 1 p.m. He said, “I applaud Ms. Darlene Cuddy for her initiative in restoring the park to its original form and thank the many community members for their generosity with their time and efforts. I look forward to working with the community to ensure that Kings Castle’s charm lives on for many more families to enjoy. Vandals might be able to destroy statues, but they will not destroy the spirit of the community.”
