Provincial Government Appoints Mediator
Community and Cultural Affairs
Milton Veniot, a Halifax labour specialist, was appointed after talks reached an impasse last night. “The mediator’s role is to oversee meetings between both parties,” said Minister MacFadyen. “It is important that our department act as a resource to facilitate further talks. By appointing a mediator, we are demonstrating the importance of ending the strike so that students can return to the classroom as soon as possible.”
This announcement is in keeping with Premier Binns’ commitment to assist both parties in working towards an amicable resolution.
“I am optimistic that a mediation process will yield constructive discussion and consultation – that will hopefully lead to an agreement,” said the Minister.
Mr. Veniot will meet the two parties this afternoon in Charlottetown.
