Minister of Health Issues Condolence to Family And Friends of Dr. Harry Callaghan

Social Services and Seniors

Today, Chester Gillan, Minister of Health and Social Services and Seniors, expressed his deepest condolences to family and friends of Dr. Harry Callaghan. Dr. Callaghan died this past weekend.

Minister Gillan said, “Dr. Callaghan was well-known on the Island for his compassionate and dedicated approach to his family practice. He will surely be missed by family, friends, professional colleagues, as well as the many he served over the years.”

Dr. Callaghan practiced medicine for 37 years and served thousands of Islanders over his career.

Minister Gillan noted, “I am sure Islanders will reflect on Dr. Callaghan’s passing and remember all the wonderful contributions he made to people’s lives. He was a big supporter of the QEH Foundation and continued to show a passion for high quality medical practice throughout his career.”

Dr. Callaghan always went beyond the call of duty. He was the Chair of the Physician Resource Planning Committee since 1998 and was always seen by professional peers as an exceptional leader. He was also a very active participant with the Canadian Medical Association and served as President of the Medical Society of PEI.

Minister Gillan added, “Dr. Callaghan was a passionate voice for promoting physicians concerns and he was very effective in soliciting educational funding from the pharmaceutical industry. On behalf of all staff at the Departments of Health and Social Services and Seniors, I want to pass along sincerest sympathies and condolences to Dr. Callaghan’s family.”
