Celebrate TD Canadian Children’s Book Week
Community and Cultural Affairs
“TD Canadian Children’s Book Week is an excellent opportunity to encourage children to read and open their eyes to the works of many exceptional Canadian children’s authors,” said Elmer MacFadyen, Minister of Community and Cultural Affairs. “It is my pleasure to welcome Hazel Hutchins to Prince Edward Island. Her presentation on writing and bringing stories to life is sure to be both interesting and enlightening.”
Hazel is the author of more than 30 books for children and young adults and has received numerous awards for her work. Hazel’s presentation to students will focus on idea generation, creating characters and developing great endings. She will read selections from her books for children and talk about becoming an author.
“TD Canadian Children’s Book Week reminds us of the value of reading to and with our children,” said Minister MacFadyen. “The Provincial Library Service, through 26 branches across the province, offers a variety of programs and services to assist children and parents in choosing books, encouraging reading and fostering a lifelong love of reading.”
Since the first Book Week tour in 1977, more than 300 Canadian authors, illustrators and storytellers have toured Canada during the first week in November to promote Canadian children‘s authors and promote reading among children.
