Nick Jessome of Kinkora is the winner of the 2005 Government of Prince Edward Island Marine Atlantic bursary.

The bursary was created by the provincial government as an expression of appreciation to Marine Atlantic employees for their contribution to the Island way of life as providers of the Borden-Cape Tormentine ferry service for 80 years.

The $3000 bursary is awarded annually to a student who is entering post-secondary education for the first time and is a dependent of a former Marine Atlantic employee.

“It is with great pleasure that we present the bursary this year to Nick Jessome who is very deserving of the award. We are pleased to support him on his way to further success while honouring the contributions of his family members and other Marine Atlantic employees,” said Minister Dover. Nick plans to major in history at UPEI. He is a good student and an avid golfer and sports enthusiast. A self-taught pianist, he also has a deep appreciation for music and the arts.

Nick is the son of Patrick and Susan Jessome. His father worked as Quarter Master with Marine Atlantic for 13 years. His grandfather, Eugene Jessome, also worked with CN Rail and CN Marine for 42 years. He was terminal manager at the Borden-Cape Tormentine ferry when he retired.
