New Executive Director Appointed to PEI Museum and Heritage Foundation

The Honourable Elmer MacFadyen, Minister of Community and Cultural Affairs and Dr. Satadal Dasgupta, Chair of the PEI Museum and Heritage Foundation today announced that Frank Butler has been appointed Executive Director of the Foundation for a one year period.

“It is my pleasure to welcome Frank Butler to the PEI Museum and Heritage Foundation,” said Minister MacFadyen. “I am confident that Mr. Butler will bring a wealth of experience as well as a fresh approach to the leadership of the foundation.”

Mr. Butler’s career covers more than 30 years of public service in Prince Edward Island. He has served as Deputy Minister of Tourism and Chief Operating Officer of Tourism PEI and Deputy Minister of Fisheries and Tourism. He was employed with Employment and Immigration Canada, from 1975 to 1988, and the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency from 1988 to 1995.

“On behalf of the Board of the PEI Museum and Heritage Foundation, I would like to welcome Mr. Butler to the foundation. His experience will allow us to continue to ensure the protection, preservation and promotion of the people, places and artifacts of Prince Edward Island culture and heritage,” said Dr. Dasgupta, Chair of the PEI Museum and Heritage Foundation.

Mr. Butler has served as Chair of the Atlantic Canada Tourism Partnership and a Board Member of the Canadian Tourism Commission. He is a Sessional Lecturer in the Economics Faculty of the University of Prince Edward Island. Mr. Butler began his work with the Foundation in early January.

The PEI Museum and Heritage Foundation operates seven sites across the province, supports educational and publishing programs and offers a wide variety of exhibits and special events to Islanders and visitors.
