Chief Health Officer Issues Warning After Fund-Raising Supper
Health and Social Services
An outbreak of suspected foodborne illness associated with the cold plates occurred over the weekend. A total of 32 people of the approximately 480 who bought the cold plates reported vomiting and diarrhea within one to 14 hours after they ate the meal. Two were admitted to hospital in Montague, where their conditions are improving.
An investigation is continuing into the possible cause of the illness and left over food samples are being tested. Dr. Sweet urges anyone who consumed the meal and has experienced vomiting or diarrhea since that time, and who has not yet spoken to a Public Health nurse, to call the Montague Public Health office at 838-0762.
“Any remaining cold plates should be discarded immediately,” Dr. Sweet emphasizes.
