Early Childhood Educators Meet Saturday for Share and Tell Celebration
Health and Social Services
The Share and Tell Celebration, which is hosted by the Measuring and Improving Kids’ Environments (MIKE) program, provides early childhood educators from across the province with the opportunity to discuss current strategies and practices, to share ideas, and to reflect on program improvements underway in their centres.
Strategies that will be discussed in detail include project-based learning, which provides for child-directed learning opportunities; the development and implementation of story sacks to foster language and pre-literacy skills; and inclusive education practices.
The MIKE program, which is a joint initiative of the Department of Health and Social Services and the Early Childhood Development Association of PEI, was developed in 2001 as a pilot project to provide early childhood centres with program support, training and development.
Early childhood centres voluntarily participate in the MIKE evaluation process to objectively measure quality, to target supports needed to improve environments, and to measure the impact of those supports. Currently, almost 60 licensed early childhood and school-age centres participate province wide.
The Share and Tell Celebration will be held from 9:30 am to 3:30 pm, at Stratford Town Hall. For more information about the Share and Tell Celebration or the MIKE program, contact Brenda Goodine or Wendy Waite-Snow at (902) 569-7581.
