Prince Edward Island Libraries - Bring the Library Home - Public Library Week October 18-24, 2004

Community and Cultural Affairs

The theme for Library Week 2004 - Bring The Library Home - is an invitation to Islanders to visit their local library and to enjoy library resources in their homes and communities. Public Libraries across the province will celebrate public library week October 18-24, 2004.

The Honourable Elmer MacFadyen, Minister of Community and Cultural Affairs, invites Islanders to visit their local public library. “As one of the most popular services offered by government, our public libraries are a vital part of communities throughout the province. Libraries contribute to community spirit and development through a variety of programs and services. Library Week is an excellent opportunity to visit your local library and discover the many learning and entertainment resources available.”

In towns and villages across the province, library staff are celebrating library week with a range of programs and activities. A visit to the library Web site at www.library.pe.ca will provide details of activities in each of the Island’s 26 public libraries.

“Visitors to an island library can take home a bestselling novel, DVD, music CD , enjoy children’s story time, enjoy a reading by the poet laureate or a program about the best birding spots on PEI. There is something for everyone at the local library,” said Kathleen Eaton, Chief Librarian, Confederation Centre Public Library. “Islanders can also visit the library from home with the library’s online catalogue Abbycat.”

To celebrate public library week, two contests are being held –Share a Library Memory and Draw the Library of Your Dreams. Contact your local library for more information and entry forms.
