Premier Binns, Minister MacFadyen Congratulate Contessa Scott and Frank MacIntyre on Gold Medal Win

Premier Pat Binns and the Honourable Elmer MacFadyen, Minister responsible for sport, expressed their congratulations to Contessa Scott and Frank MacIntyre on the gold medal winning performance of the Canadian goalball team in the paralympics in Athens, Greece. Team Canada finished with a record of 9-0 and six shutouts. Contessa Scott scored six goals in the tournament

“On behalf of the Province of Prince Edward Island, I would like to express our great pride in the tremendous efforts of both Contessa and Frank at the Paralympics,” says Premier Pat Binns. “You are wonderful ambassadors for Prince Edward Island and Canada and we are very proud of your accomplishments and your gold medal winning performance.”

The Canadian women’s goalball team captured the gold medal in Athens on Sunday, against the United States 3-1.

“A sincere congratulations is extended to Contessa, Frank and the Canadian women’s goalball team on Sunday’s victory,” says Minister MacFadyen. “Your hard work and dedication to the sport have earned you a second gold medal and the recognition of all Islanders as well as the rest of Canada.”

Contessa and Frank return to Prince Edward Island on Thursday, September 30, and will arrive at the Charlottetown Airport at 8:30 p.m.

The Community of Clyde River will host an Open House in honour of Contessa and the Team Canada Gold Medal win on Sunday, October 3 from 3 - 5 p.m. at the Clyde River Community Centre.
