Conference to Discuss WTO Agricultural Trade
Agriculture, Fisheries, Aquaculture & Forestry
The Government of Canada has said its objectives in the agriculture negotiations are to completely eliminate all forms of export subsidies, substantially reduce trade-distorting domestic support and obtain significant improvements in market access for all agricultural and food products. The framework agreement supports many of Canada’s key negotiating objectives.
WTO member countries will resume negotiations on the agreement in October.
Officials attending the conference include Steve Verheul, Canada’s chief agriculture trade negotiator; Hugh Maginnis, Acting Minister - Counsellor for agriculture affairs, US Embassy, Ottawa; and Bob Friesen, president of the Canadian Federation of Agriculture. Prince Edward Island Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries, Aquaculture and Forestry Kevin MacAdam will officially open the conference at 9:00 a.m.
The conference agenda and registration form are available at www.gov.pe.ca/go/wto.
