Council of the Federation to Meet in Vancouver

Premier's Office

Provincial and Territorial Premiers will assemble in Vancouver tomorrow for the first formal meeting of the Council of the Federation. Premier Pat Binns, Chair of the Council, says he and his colleagues are looking forward to making progress on important issues to Canadians such as sustaining and reforming health care and strengthening the economy. He indicated that the Council will also agree on its workplan for the coming year and discuss follow-up from the recent First Ministers' Meeting in Ottawa.

The Council of the Federation was created to address present and future challenges facing the federation in order to better meet the changing needs of Canadians. It came into effect with the signing of a Founding Agreement in Charlottetown last December.
