Snowy and wet conditions affecting Provincial Parks and Confederation Trail
Tourism and Culture
“After the winter we had it’s not terribly surprising that we have to delay the opening of these two campgrounds,” said Minister Henderson. “There is still a lot of snow on the ground, especially in areas with tree cover, and where there isn’t snow, the ground is often saturated. Given all that, a delayed opening is the appropriate course of action.”
Mill River and Brudenell Provincial Campgrounds typically open on the Friday before the May long weekend. This year the two parks will open on May 22. The remaining Provincial Park campgrounds open either June 5 or 12.
Meanwhile, officials are warning users of the Confederation Trail to use caution over the coming weeks. There are a number of locations where damage has occurred over winter.
“We’re seeing minor damage, like washouts, on parts of the trail all over the Island, but especially west of Charlottetown,” said Minister Henderson. “Trail users should be careful over the coming weeks as crews determine the extent of damage and the necessary repairs.”
