The official history of the geographic name Morell (which can be somewhat technical, we admit):
Morel (Sett., P.O.) was adopted in Place Names of PEI,1925.Changed to Morell (Village) 3 December 1946 on 11L/7.Incorporated as a Village in 1953.Status changed to Community by the Municipalities Act in 1983. The name commemorates Jean Francois Morel's family.Morel, a native of St. Malo, was born in 1697. - PN of PEI, 1925.
