Brocklesby River was adopted in Place Names of PEI, 1925.Changed to Westmorland River (NOT Westmoreland River) 12 Dec. 1939 on 11L/3. Confirmed 6 May 1947 on C. 4405.Name changed to Westmoreland River 22 Nov. 1966 on 11L/6.Headwaters altered (at 46 14 - 63 29) from the east branch to the west branch 26 Jan. 1972 on 11L/3.Source now on 11L/5. (Former headwaters adopted as East Branch Westmoreland River 21 Jan. 1976 on 11L/6.) Place Names of PEI, 1925 (in Brocklesby River entry) and Geo. Names of PEI, 1973, give related, but somewhat different, origins of this name.
