Historique
In 1890 a group of citizens of Stanhope, Prince Edward Island, came together and created the Stanhope Hall Company, whose aim was to build a community hall for lectures, concerts, and other social activities. The original Hall was built on land purchased from Duncan and Euphemia MacLauchlan on the road leading to Covehead. A motion to move the Hall to West Covehead was passed at a meeting on 28 January 1937, and in March 1937 the Hall was moved to the new site. In 1951 the name of the Hall was changed from the Stanhope Hall Co. to the Stanhope-Covehead Hall Co.; in 1953 it was changed again to the Stanhope-Covehead Community Hall Company. The hall was used for activities such as school fairs, card parties, dinners, and as a meeting place for various organizations (information taken from Stanhope: Sands of Time, 179-185).
