History
St. Patrick's Roman Catholic Church in Fort Augustus, Prince Edward Island, was established by a group of parishioners of Rev. Patrick Moynagh, Parish Priest, of Donagh, County Monaghan, Ireland. Sixty families emigrated to Prince Edward Island and commenced the construction of the church in 1837. This early church was never completed and services were held in a mission. In 1869, a new brick structure was completed under the direction of Rev. Thomas Phelan. The parish was divided into four quarters: Monaghan, Fort Augustus, Glenfinan, and Johnston's River.
