History

St. Michael's Church was built circa 1820 at Launching Point, Prince Edward Island, to replace the previous log chapel which had been visited regularly by Bishop MacEachern. Father John Glenaladale was the first priest who resided in the parish. In 1840 Rev. Francis John MacDonald, the first graduate of St. Andrew's College to be raised to the priesthood was sent to Launching. Father MacDonald also attended the churches at Rollo Bay and Georgetown. By the mid 1840's the church at Launching was too small and inconveniently located and a new church, St. George's, was built at Grand River (i.e. St. Georges). It opened its doors in September 1860.
