Historique

The Royal Canadian Legion's Aural History Project was a national initiative begun in 1984 to document the experiences of Legionnaires and contribute to the historical record of Canada by disseminating copies of the material to provincial archives across the country. Despite a lack of enthusiasm in some regions of Canada, the project produced interviews with 508 Legion members nationwide. The project was completed in 1987.

The Prince Edward Island segment of the project resulted in 12 interviews with Legion members from 7 branches. The interviews were conducted in the years 1985 and 1986 by Eric Jessome, J. Albert Gallam, J. N. Richard, Lloyd G. Matthews, William J. Ready, Eric MacEwan, and (?) McIntyre. In addition to the Aural Project interviews, there are two cassette recordings from the 1970s: opening ceremonies of the Golden Anniversary of the P.E.I. Command in 1975 and the closing ceremony of the Golden Anniversary of the P.E.I. Command in 1976.
