Scope and content
The series consists of research and interview notes and copies of the primary and secondary resources collected and compiled by Michael O'Grady in the writing of From grass roots to grim reapings, a history of the Rural Development Council. These include records from the files of the Department of Development, correspondence and reports supplied by Rudi Dallenbach, newspaper clippings, and articles and speeches. Earlier drafts of the book are also included. The material has been arranged in the following subseries:
1. Sources, General
2. Sources: Comprehensive Development Plan (primarily Department of Development files)
3. Newspaper clippings
4. Drafts
5. Published documents
The considerable interest in the history of the Rural Development Council, particularly by the Institute of Island Studies, in evidenced by several attempts to collect relevant information, review the Council's records , and to interview persons directly involved, or employed by, the Council by researchers such as Gordon Cobb, David Milne and John Crossley.
