Scope and content

This subseries contains a complete inventory of the Senate prepared for the Whip as well as reports outlining the proposed development of the parliamentary precinct. It also contains minutes of the Joint Committee and correspondence, memos, and other documents dating back to 1980 relating to accommodations needs, reallocation of space and the renovations to the Centre Block, East Wing and the Victoria Building.

In December 1986 an informal joint committee composed of three members from the House of Commons Board of Internal Economy and three from the Senate Committtee on Internal Economy, Budgets and Administration to examine proposals for renovations to the Centre Block and future parliamentary accomodation and report on a common set of recommendations. This was to provide coordination to an on-going process of piece-meal renovations and reallocation of offices and would result in extensive renovations to the parliamentary precinct.
