Biographical history
The Canadian Ladies Golf Association (CLGA) was established in 1913 with Frances Allen Campbell as the first president. As the interest in ladies golf grew, provincial branches were formed. In 1925 the Maritime Branch was established. Twenty-nine years later in 1954, the branch was divided into three separate divisions, the New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, and Prince Edward Island (PEI) and Newfoundland (NFLD) branch. In 1962, the PEI and NFLD branch became two separate entities. Originally called the Ladies Golf Union, the name was changed to the CLGA in 1966. Run by a Provincial Board of Directors, the objectives of the PEI branch of the CLGA as stated in its constitution, are to uphold the rules of the game, to advance and safeguard the interests of women's golf, as well as maintaining, regulating, and enforcing the CLGA system of handicapping, course rating, championships, and competitions. The PEI branch of the CLGA is currently made up of the Summerside, Brudenell, Stanhope, and Forest Hills golf clubs.
