History
The Prince Edward Island Advisory Council on the Status of Women was inaugurated in 1975. The mandate of the Council of nine members, appointed by the Lieutenant Governor in Council, is to develop awareness of women's issues, encourage discussion of these issues, and assist the Minister responsible in promoting changes in attitudes, policies, and legislation which will foster the equality of women. To accomplish this objective the Council members receive submissions from individuals and groups, conduct research, participate in relevant programs, make recommendations and/or publish reports on legislation, policies and practices impacting on women.
