Administrative history
Epekwitk Heritage Consulting conducted an archaeological survey adjacent to Fort Amherst-Port La Joie in the autumn of 1994. The project was initiated by Canadian Heritage-Parks in response to concerns raised by the Acadian community and the implementation of the Fort Amherst-Port La Joie N.H.S. Management Plan. It was to be the preliminary stage in locating the 18th century chapel and cemetery serving the community of Port La Joie.
Custodial history
Scope and content
This fonds consists of the final report which describes the preliminary research into old plans to identify possible sites of the chapel as well as the undertaking of test excavations and the resulting archaeological evidence. Recommendations are made regarding further fieldwork and strategies discussed to realize the goals of establishing the sites of the chapel and cemetery and to identify the nature of future threats posed by development and shoreline erosion.
