Scope and content
This series contains records of Dr. George Dewar's political career as a Conservative Member of the Legislative Assembly for 2nd Prince (1955-1978), Minister of Education (1959-1966), Provincial Secretary (1965-1966), and interim Leader of the Opposition (1970). The series consists of correspondence, memoranda, reports, speeches and speaking notes on a variety of topics, but the majority of the records document his term as Minister of Education, including files relating to vocational training, Prince of Wales College, St. Dunstan's University, and the creation of the University of Prince Edward Island. There are some constituency papers regarding issues such as roads, paving, and raising the legal drinking age. There are also several letters of support for Dr. Dewar's request for appointment to the role of Lieutenant Governor of Ontario and Prince Edward Island as well as the Senate. The series also contains three photographs, including a composite photograph of the 1965 Executive Council as they were in 1945, an identified group portrait, and two photographs of Dr. Dewar.
