History
Founded in 1914, the first President of the North Lake Women's Institute was Mrs. Walter Walker, with Miss Lily Rose acting as the Secretary-Treasurer. Although the group initially covered three school districts (North Lake, Elmira, and Lakeville), the latter two formed their own Women's Institutes by 1959. Meetings were held once a month. The North Lake Women's Institute contributed knitted sweaters, socks and other non-perishable goods to soldiers in both World Wars, and they were also conscientious about serving their local community, with contributions to the local school, hospital and orphanage.
