History

George Hubert "Niki" Nicholson was born on 12 March 1898, the son of George and Annie (McCallum) Nicholson of Crapaud, Prince Edward Island. After attending Prince of Wales College, he taught school for four years before enrolling in the bachelor's program at Mount Allison University. In 1923 he earned his master's degree at Harvard and began teaching math at the University of Vermont, a position he held for 50 years. Following his retirement, the math building at UVM was named in his honour. Professor Nicholson was married to Margaret Essery and had two children, Kenneth and Frances. He died on 25 January 1995.
