Historique

Until the late 1800s, St. Eleanors was considered the mother parish off all surrounding Anglican parishes including the New London parish, which was comprised of St. Thomas church in French River, St. Stephens church in Burlington/Irishtown, and St. Marks church in Kensington. Active within the New London Parish churches was a Woman's Auxiliary (1907-1947), and a Guild (190?).

In 1824, Reverend Louis Charles Jenkins moved to St. Eleanors where he organized the erection of a church the following year. Burning down in 1835, this church was rebuilt in 1838 by George Tanton. Reverend Wiggins officiated the first service in November of 1842.

In the summer of 1816 the frame of a church was erected in New London on the southerly side of the French River. The first recorded service in New London was conducted by Reverend Jenkins in 1821. The frame of a church which had been erected in 1826(?) blew down in a violent storm in the fall of 1827. Rebuilt in 1829, the church was consecrated by Bishop Inglis in 1836. Rebuilt in 1875, the new church had a seating capacity for one-hundred and fifty parishioners.

Built on land donated by Thomas Millman, work began on St. Stephens church in Burlington/Irishtown in 1854. Opening in March of the following year, the first rector was Reverend William Meek. The interior of the church was completed in 1858 and was consecrated by Bishop Benney on 1 July 1860.

St. Marks church in Kensington was consecrated in ca. 1863. A new church was built in April 1885 and was officially opened in 1887. This new church was consecrated by Bishop Courtney on 9 June 1888.
