History
Construction on the Church of Christ in Montague, Prince Edward Island, began in 1875. It was made with brick manufactured locally in the Robert Stewart Brick works. Located on Main Street in Montague, the church was completed in the spring of 1876. John Knox, having arrived in 1841 from Nova Scotia to spread the Baptist faith, preached the dedication sermon. The first documented minister was Reverend R.W. Stevenson from 1879 to 1885. Throughout the years, there were many organizations within the congregation. The women of the congregation participated in a Ladies Aid Society (ca. 1917), Women's Missionary Society (ca. 1929), and a Ladies Circle (ca. 1937). There were also youth groups (1935-?), and bible study groups (1966-?) active within the congregation. In 1978 a new church manse was purchased by the congregation.
